John 8: 31-32 “31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”- NLT
Well it is August. How quickly the year of 2023 is moving along without us even realizing it. It seems like just yesterday that we were celebrating the resurrection of Jesus at Easter. Now we are thinking about kids going back to school and the summer is all but over. This time of year I am reminded of what Jesus told us to keep doing. He says that the people who believe in him should remain faithful to His teachings. How can we remain faithful to Jesus’ teachings if we never open the Scriptures to find out what those teachings are? How can we build a relationship with God and be a good disciple if we don’t know what we are really following and what we are truly called to do and to be? Jesus makes it very clear in several places that we are to feed one another. I love the example of what Jesus says just before feeding five thousand plus people with a few loaves and a few fish. The disciples are caught up in what they can physically see and what they see is that they should let these people go home and eat. Jesus says, “No, you feed them.” We are to trust Him, lean into His teaching, and feed one another. Sometimes with real food and sometimes with spiritual food. This month we will learn about what it means to feed one another. We are going to lean into what it means to “have faith”. We are going to see Peter as “the rock” that Jesus would build His church with, even though Peter was less than perfect. We are also going to celebrate the newness of our congregation by welcoming our new member vows to be a Global Methodist Church that is truly leaning into our Wesleyan heritage and become all that the Holy Spirit is calling us to be. My hope and prayer for us, is that August will find us getting closer to God through the work of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and that we as a congregation will get up, move our feet, get involved, and be the disciples of Jesus Christ that He needs us to be for our community to see love, hope, and faith. - Pastor Mike
