New Name. New Denomination Affiliation. Same Local Church.
As of March 26, DeGraff United Methodist Church was renamed Cornerstone Fellowship of DeGraff by a church vote of 42-26. The name change occurred in conjunction with the church voting to leave the United Methodist Church denomination on April 12 by a vote of 42-0, with the eventual hope that our congregation would belong to the Global Methodist Church.
Cornerstone Fellowship of DeGraff has been a locally established church serving DeGraff and Riverside community, in some form or another, since Hanks Chapel was the original Methodist Society around 1825. The church is active with several local organizations like Riverside Local Schools, and a host for the G.R.A.C.E. team that serves our community throughout the year. Outreach services include an annual community Free Sale which is always a hit, and several other community events throughout the year, and an building that includes hosting programs and provides meeting and conference space.
We chose Cornerstone Fellowship of DeGraff as our new name because it reflects our priority to maintain Peter Hank's vision of our church as the cornerstone of faith in our community as well as a desire to build intentional communities of faith. Our name has changed but we continue as the same local church and with the same mission to connect Jesus to people of all generations and make Jesus known. We believe the gift of Jesus is for everyone and we are intentional about building and growing communities who worship together, serve regularly, disciple others, and live generously.
